Arnolds Creek

Engaged by Melbourne Water (MW), as part of the MW’s ‘Reimagining Your Creek’ program, REALMstudios collaborated with Alluvium to reimagine an 1.4km piped section of Arnolds Creek in the City of Melton.

Arnolds Creek as a piped creekline is an expansive and poorly presented piece of linear open space but with a greater opportunity to provide a connective piece of green space between schools, parklands, housing and various amenities. The current creekline is featureless other than a shallow concrete invert and sporadically positioned trees. The community use this space as a thoroughfare by using the concrete channel as the primary pathway through the site.

The primary vision for the future of this site is to become an activated series of nodes and pathways that connect the various schools and amenities to the local community. Through the removal of the concrete channel, an urban forest will be created with increased wet habitat areas and in-stream features that will soften and provide for a more appealing environment for the local people, flora and fauna. The opportunity to turn and face the waterway through urban redevelopment housing may be an option in the future.
