Christchurch Promenade Study

REALMstudios were invited to compare the proposed promenade structure of Christchurch against a series of promenades in known global exemplar cities of similar population ie Copenhagen, Helsinki, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Lyon and Vancouver. The question being asked for Christchurch was: how much is the right amount? Too much space leads to a vacuous and uncomfortable outcome that detracts from the vitality of the city. Too little leads to an impoverished position and poor amenity. In comparing these other successful cities to Christchurch we were able to represent the variance and draw some observational conclusions that either validated or challenged the Christchurch condition.
