Huntingdale

REALMstudios’ approach to the landscape plan for this post quarry residential development has been to order a series of landscape character precincts and street types based on street orientation and their importance and proximity to adjacent landscapes or wetlands, and then to understand the site in terms of its connection to Port Phillip Bay through its original but now lost landscape dunal system.

Trees and understorey plantings have been assigned to the particular street types to provide clear legibility and variety across the estate, capitalising on form, colour and deciduous/evergreen characteristics. As a network spaces the design provides for a permeable pedestrian environment with a series of open space types and connectors, including a central linear park as the key piece of open space.

Three feature wetlands have been designed as key ‘breathing spaces’ for the development footprint, being significant green infrastructure components with boardwalks, pavilions and seating areas as part of the recreational and community offering and set within a green infrastructure context.
