In seeking to reconcile a new modernist extension with its original and established bungalow house the design for the new garden establishes and interrogates a broader landscape idea “from dune to wetland”.
In this thinking the garden becomes a microcosm and reflection of a broader landscape system in which the site is located, as part of Perth’s lake and wetland systems. Across a sloping terrain, plantings transition from coastal dune through to wetland species, playing on seasonal displays and textures.
With an emphasis on local and reclaimed materials, floating decks provide connections over dry/ephemeral waterways, and the predominantly native plant palette (mirroring natural plant associations) anchors and absorbs the site as a unified composition.
