An elegant competition winning scheme for the ground floor plaza forms part of a major building refurbishment of this classic modernist architectural design. In a sensual approach to pavements and through manipulation of the architectural grid pedestrian flows are directed to the rear of the plaza to aid in the site’s distribution pattern and activation.

A series of parametrically modelled organic timber elements integrate seating and planting to respect the heritage curtilage of the building, provide for clear pedestrian movement and a legibility for sightlines, wayfinding and CPTED. Flexible open spaces provide for pop-up style events and external exhibition space blurring public and private realms, and in doing so going beyond the immediacy of the site to make a significant contribution to the city.
