hilton park precinct
Through a collaborative community and stakeholder engagement process, the Hilton Park Precinct Masterplan outlines a comprehensive, exciting, and achievable plan for revitalising existing sporting assets into ‘Community Parkland,’ aiming to deliver broader social and ecological outcomes.
The project was initiated as part of Council’s effort to renew and activate suburban amenities, and emerged through discussions with local clubs, highlighting issues
with ageing, inaccessible, and non-compliant facilities. It aims to address these challenges and meet the needs of a growing, evolving community.
Located on the eastern edge of Beaconsfield, Hilton Park is one of the largest open spaces managed by the City of Fremantle, covering approximately 19 hectares. The Masterplan reflects the aspirations of local sports clubs, key stakeholders, and the broader community. Through formative engagement, a shared vision was developed, resulting in a community-supported Place Plan and Masterplan Report.

Hilton Park represents a best-practice example of landscape planning for complex, high-stakes community infrastructure. The project successfully navigates competing interests and diverse site conditions through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary process. A rigorous master planning approach, grounded in inclusive consultation and critical design thinking, has delivered a robust framework for equitable, high-quality public outcomes. Hilton Park sets a strong precedent for community-led planning in contested urban spaces. - Jury Citation
