The design for Napier plaza roots itself in place by looking to both the natural and historical elements specific to Rye.

The scheme arranges itself according to elements such as:

• Wind and solar movement (manifests in windbreak arrangement and seating locations)

• the coastal water and sand movements (manifests in paving patterning and colour palette choice)

• coastal ecologies (manifests in plant palette and colour palette)  

• as well as Rye’s particular histories (manifests in paving patterning and material choices)

In so doing, the scheme presents a responsive and appropriate design.
