Award win for Shoalhaven Resource Recovery Learning Centre
REALMstudios is pleased to be recognised last night at the AILA NSW awards, receiving a Regional Achievement Award for our Shoalhaven Resource Recovery Learning Centre, a project in collaboration with Terroir, Second Edition, Atelier Ten and Cantilever. Formerly a landfill, the centre is an exemplar of re-use, re-purposing and recycling, re-processing 80% of the material it receives. The Learning Centre, sited on saturated, toxic ground, is its public face, teaching as much through its design and implementation as through its programs. Recovery, restoration, remediation and reimagination have become central principles for the site approach.
"The Shoalhaven Resource Learning and Research Centre is to be congratulated on its embrace of net zero today – a design of genuine healing, remediation, material reuse, circularity, and regeneration. The team has responded strongly to an inspiring brief from Shoalhaven Council, creating a proposition that is compelling and legible. As a space dedicated to education and research, the “living lab” invites the community and schools to immerse themselves in the expanding potentials of material reuse and an evolving landscape that remediates, repairs, and re-natures.” AILA New South Wales Jury Citation
