Exchange Precinct awarded at 2023 AIA Awards

REALMstudios is extremely proud to be part of the award-winning team behind the Exchange Precinct at Curtin University, taking home the John Septimus Roe Award for Urban Design at the recent 2023 AIA WA Awards. Thanks to the Australian Institute of Architects and jury, and congratulations to the design team; Christou Design Group, Wardle Studio, Nettleton Tribe and countless others that contributed to this project over the last five years, including the amazing staff at Curtin Uni. The jury noted: "To achieve the delivery of the Curtin Exchange Precinct Stage 01, Christou Design Group (and team) have skilfully managed a range of significant design inputs in this complex and multifaceted precinct. This required close and detailed coordination with the separately engaged Architects of the precinct’s buildings including Wardle Studio, Nettleton Tribe and 6 Degrees, as well as with the landscape architects REALMstudios. The individually contributing buildings are diverse in typology, including educational, residential, hotel, retail, commercial and hospitality, as well as public spaces, roads and public transport infrastructure. The team have skilfully stitched these elements together as a precinct resulting in an exciting, responsive and engaging outcome which says more about “precinct” than simply building in close proximity. The urban design outcome of Curtin Exchange Precinct Stage 1 is of the highest standard, establishing an ambitious benchmark for further implementation of the Greater Curtin Master Plan, and providing an exemplar for the coordinated delivery of campus masterplans and high-quality mixed-use precincts in general." REALMstudios would also like to acknowledge Place Laboratory for their earlier landscape work in the precinct. Located on Whadjuk Noongar Country
