Landscape Planning and Research awards at 2025 AILA WA Awards

On Friday night, REALMstudios proudly received two awards at the 2025 AILA WA State Awards, recognised in both the ‘Research, Policy and Communications’ and ‘Landscape Planning’ categories — a great achievement for our teams, collaborators and clients.

In the Landscape Planning category, REALMstudios worked with @cityoffremantle and @shape_urban to create the Hilton Park Masterplan that addresses challenges of the existing park to ensuring a future-ready community parkland for all. The jury recognised Hilton Park, remarking:

"Hilton Park represents a best-practice example of landscape planning for complex, high-stakes community infrastructure. The project successfully navigates competing interests and diverse site conditions through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary process. A rigorous master planning approach, grounded in inclusive consultation and critical design thinking, has delivered a robust framework for equitable, high-quality public outcomes. Hilton Park sets a strong precedent for community-led planning in contested urban spaces."

REALMstudios also teamed up with Grafted Studio to deliver the ‘Department of Communities Landscape Design Brief and Guide’ that is a guiding document providing clear, accessible information for Communities delivery partners, setting expectations, minimum standards, and promoting quality outcomes in their landscape projects across the state. The jury praised the Research, Policy and Communications work, stating:

"This document sets a new benchmark for landscaping standards across Department of Communities’ projects statewide. It thoughtfully integrates critical design principles, ensuring landscape elements — both hard and soft — are scaled appropriately and respond meaningfully to place. The guidelines promote broader benefits such as increased urban tree canopy and permeable surfaces, enhancing the liveability of our neighbourhoods."
