REALMstudios is proud to have partnered with @perthnrm on the ReWild Perth Demonstration Garden, a collaborative project that reimagines how small urban landscapes can support both people and nature. Members of the REALMstudios rolled up their sleeves and joined the team on site to help with planting. It was a rewarding opportunity to see the design come to life and contribute directly to the garden’s establishment.
Located at Technology Park in Bentley, the garden transforms Perth NRM’s former campus-style grounds into a living laboratory for biodiversity, beauty and climate resilience. Supported by Lotterywest and the Town of Victoria Park, it brings together local nurseries, growers and community partners to show what can be achieved when design, ecology and care for Country work together.
Each garden responds to its setting, orientation and scale, from compact balconies to larger courtyards. The spaces explore different planting and design approaches such as rain gardens, grasslands, floral and cultural compositions. Planting from the ReWild Perth list provides year-round habitat for pollinators, birds and other fauna, supported by bird and bat boxes, bee hotels, lizard shelters and frog habitats. Water-sensitive design is embedded throughout the site with rain gardens, pocket wetlands, gabion walls and swales that conserve water and enhance habitat.
The project is rooted in the character of local ecosystems and aims to bring people and wildlife closer together. It demonstrates how modest interventions can build community connection, support biodiversity and inspire more ambitious approaches to urban greening across Perth. Through ongoing biodiversity monitoring and community involvement, the ReWild Perth Demonstration Garden invites people to help restore local ecologies and imagine a greener, more connected future for the city.
