As a new place for a new community the design for the Riverdale Town Centre draws deeply from its geological origins where the volcanic plains represent a patterning and form that provide a base for design at both the macro and micro levels.

In this sense the design is a play on ‘scale within scale’ where materiality, water and vegetation interweave to represent a pattern of place. In working this through the structure successfully deals with wind, shade and shelter in a place that could otherwise be hostile.

Furnishings, pavements and vegetation consistently draw from the patterns of the plain to establish a cohesive and memorable town centre setting.
