Sydney Charles Quarter Masterplan
The landscape strategy is based on principles of urban greening, material reuse, connectivity, environmental performance, and place activation. These ensure a climate-resilient infrastructure, human-scale design and network of memorable public spaces. The design negotiates significant level change to integrate a flush, shared-space streetscape. The central common is publicly accessible and offers the broader community a generous recreational green open space as the key focus to the development. On structure landscapes also address various user-specific requirements of each building typology, including a significant pool deck associated with the hotel site.
By exceeding the City of Vincent’s canopy cover and deep soil guidelines, the plan supports biodiversity and urban habitat while fostering a strong sense of identity for this legacy urban renewal project. In collaboration with CCN, REALMstudios has delivered an exciting new public realm and sustainable framework enhancing the ecological and social value of the site.

The Sydney Charles Quarter Landscape Master Plan focuses on adaptive reuse in this exciting urban renewal of the 2 hectare former City Motors site in West Perth, forming part of the bourgeoning ‘Pickle District’.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the master plan creates spaces for living, working, and gathering, adaptable to future community and business needs. In celebrating site histories, key elements of the former site are preserved; brickwork, steel trusses, signage and the old Pickle Shed.
